Upper part of a Qaraite legal document. Dated: Tuesday, 23 Tishrei 5408 AM = 22 October 1647 CE. Two orphans—Aharon Rofeʾ and his brother Zekharya Rofeʾ, the sons of the late Elʿazar Rofeʾ Ḥazzan—reach an agreement concerning the equal division of an inheritance of a shop (dukkān) and half of a loggia (al-nuṣf maqʿad) in the market of the goldsmiths (Sūq al-Ṣāgha), which are valued at 4,000 medins. The locations and boundaries of each property are then described.
