الوصف

Fragment of a family letter. Torn vertically down the middle. Addressed to Fuḍayla (פוצילא), in Alexandria. In Judaeo-Arabic. Dating: late, probably ca. 15th–17th century. Includes greetings at the beginning from Umm Ḥaṣriyya (אום חצרייא) and Ḥaṣriyya; also the addressee's brother-in-law, Yūsuf, and Umm Yūsuf, and Ḥanna, and Yehuda. At one point the addressee is called "yā wālidī" ("my father"). Mentions something from Venice ([...] bunduqī). Mentions Sulaymān. On the second page (recto), refers to locking someone's house; the phrase "you know that I am your sister"; how ever since Esther moved, "your mother is in a different place very day, one day [...], one day with us, and one day in the house of [...]." Merits further examination.
