الوصف

Recto: Opening lines of a letter introduced by quotations such as Psalms 31:2. Verso: unusual note that does not seem to be a classic address; it is written vertically and 90 degrees to the direction of the text on the other side, which suggests it was written after the fragment was already torn. It reads, "Letters from [my? your?] brother from Yemen, to be sent to Sicily/Palermo along with my letter, God willing." Maybe the letter on recto was torn to create scrap paper, and this note was then enclosed along with a bundle of letters to be forwarded from Yemen to Sicily via Egypt. Possibly the letter mentioned by Goitein (Speculum, 1954) as one of the few letters sent from the IO region addressed directly to the Med region. PG.
