الوصف
Fragment of an Arabic administrative letter. The document concerns fiscal and administrative oversight in a district (nāḥiya), especially the condition of farmers (المزارعين), the management of agricultural revenues, produce, and fiscal agents (غلات وعوامل), and the collection of kharāj. The sender instructs the recipient to exercise close supervision, investigate suspicious circumstances, and, if necessary, implement measures of arrest or restriction against an identified individual (name uncertain). The right margin contains supplementary directives emphasizing the rapid transport or handling of revenues, the attraction and collection of funds, and the full recovery of tax obligations. On recto, there is an Aramaic targum of Joshua.

and inquire thoroughly into their condition. And if suspicion appears to you, then they have ordered the arrest of Mughāra(?) son of [. . .]
