الوصف

Legal document. In Judaeo-Arabic. The hand is reminiscent of Qaraite documents. Dated: both Ḥeshvan 1779 Seleucid (= October 1467 CE), the week of parshat Ḥaye Sara, and Rabīʿ II 873 AH (= October/November 1468 CE); there is a discrepancy between these dates. The document involves Umm ʿAbd al-Karīm who came to the house of ʿAbd al-Laṭīf and asked him to 'come and open this chest.' She then says something about Shemuel the nephew (sister's son) of ʿAbd al-Laṭīf, and something about if her son is "suitable for reading" (in ṣalaḥa ibnī lil-qirāʾa). ʿAbd al-Laṭīf then says something about an oath he had made, including "by this house" and "by the Torah." (Information in part from CUDL.)
