الوصف

Recto: injunction issued by the vizier of al-Fāʾiz (Ṭalāʾīʿ b. Ruzzīk) ordering Abū Muḥammad ʿAbdallāh b. Kāmil b. ʿAbd al-Karīm to execute all of his orders. Verso: end of a legal document dated 13 Ṣafar 554 AH (= March 1159). Written on parchment (like legal documents, and unlike standard chancery documents). (Information in part from Khan and CUDL.)

  2. [ al-Fāʾiz bi-Na]sr Allāh, commander of the faithful, the benedictions of God be upon him and upon his pure ancestors and expected rightly-guided sons

  3. [ the swo]rd of Islām, succour of mankind, the protector of the judges of the Muslims and the guide of the dāʿīs of the believers, may God strengthen the religion through him.

  4. [ ] the illustrious and trustworthy judge, light of the religion, banner of the rightly-guided, close friend of the imām, beauty of the judges and honour of the learned.

  5. [ ] support of the state and its glory, Abū Muḥammad ʿAbdallāh ibn Kāmil ibn ʿAbd aI-Karīm upon the mighty judgment

  6. [ ] heavenly ..., all of it, may God make eternal the rule of him who rules it and bless him. He orders him to execute all his orders.

  7. [ ] the two judges, the most auspicious, the powerful, trustworthy support of the regime, power of the judges, light of the state and its justice, Abū ʿAlī

  8. [ ], the guarded and opponents ... free Muslim [ ]......
