Credit instrument or private receipt: ENA 3924.6

الوصف

Receipt issued by a waqf overseer (ناظر وقف) for "ground rent" (حكر) of properties in the "the Jewish quarter" of Cairo (حكر القاعات بحارت اليهود). Dated 1189 AH (1775/1776 CE). With an Ottoman-era stamp– likely that of the waqf overseer. The receipt was issued to a certain "Salāmūn al-Yahūdī". Pinholes at the margin ~5–6mm apart suggest that this fragment may once have once been sewn together with ENA 3924.5 (but not by the original owners given the different dates). The Ottoman official al-Muʿallam Salmūn Iskenderānī is likely the same person referenced in the letters and petition: T-S Ar.38.111 (PGPID 20707); T-S Ar.39.425 (PGPID 20938); T-S AS 178.88 (PGPID 36909).
