Ibn al-Afḍal

Abū ʿAlī Aḥmad b. al-Sayyid al-Ajal al-Afḍal, also known as Ibn al-Afḍal, is the grandson of Badr al-Jamālī, and served as a vizier of the Fāṭimid state in Egypt. He held the office of Amīr al-Juyūsh (Commander of the Armies) and died in the sixth century H (ca. 526 H/1131–1132 CE). He is also known as al-Malik al-Akmal Aḥmad and was given the epithet “al-Afḍal” in reference to his father. He is mentioned in historical sources as a prominent military commander of the Fāṭimid state.
