Description / Bio

Manumitted man and merchant who had formerly been enslaved by Barhun al-Tāhartī during the early eleventh century CE. One of Faraj's own business letters survived in the geniza (T-S 8.12) and he is also mentioned in the letter T-S 12.175. (Information from PGP and Craig Perry, Slavery and the Jews of Medieval Egypt, Appendices 1-2, no. 25, no. 6)
