Description

Inventory of the estate of Nissim b. Yaʿqūb, a merchant who died in Sawākin (Suakin in present-day Sudan) on Monday, 7 Shaʿbān 503 AH (1 March 1110 CE). It was probably copied from an Arabic-script original (based on the error of גואיג instead of חואיג) focusing mainly on silver, gold, and garments. The scribe notes that the estate also included household utensils (māʿūn), apparently omitted here. It also adds that the captain Kabsa (? כבסה) contracted a loan of 2 dinars and 306 dirhams (from the estate?) in the presence of the Jewish merchants. (Information in part from Goitein's notes.)
