Description

Bifolio from a court ledger. In the hand of Mevorakh b. Natan. Dating: ca. 1150 CE. These pages are a register of marriage contracts. In one, a freedman stipulates that his wife should live with him in the house of his former master (5+20, and woman's dowry 60). On the other side, there is a dowry evaluation (taqwīm) for Ḥalfon b. Elʿazar and Sitt al-Fakhr bt. Hillel ha-Levi (10+30, and woman's dowry 97.5, though it's listed as 100). (Information in part from Goitein's index card and Med. Soc. III, appendix, p. 368)
