Description
Letter from Yiṣḥaq b. Aharon Sijilmāsī, probably in Alexandria, to Ḥalfon b. Netanʾel ha-Levi, probably in Fustat. Dating: ca. 1142–45 CE. The sender reports that the boat he was traveling on sank at Shābūr (on the western shore of the Rashīd/Rosetta branch of the Nile). He was able to save himself and his merchandise. The main purpose of the letter is to ask Ḥalfon to obtain from Abū Saʿd ha-Shishi (apparently Moshe b. Netanʾel ha-Levi) a list of the books he wishes to have copied and send it to Sijilmāsī before he travels with the Bīshānīs (i.e., the Pisans). He also asks for Ḥalfon's own list of books he wishes to have copied. Greetings to various people including Ḥalfon's brother Abū ʿAlī Yeḥezqel. Shemuel (possibly Yiṣḥaq's son) sends his regards.
