Letter T-S 13J7.18

Description

Letter from Eliyyahu b. Zekharya, possibly in Bet Guvrin (verso, l. 16), to a certain Shemuel, in Jerusalem. The letter is in Hebrew for the portion addressing Shemuel (which suggests that he is of European origin) and then Judaeo-Arabic for the portion where Eliyyahu turns to addressing his son Neḥemya. This son Neḥemya is staying with the addressee. The father plans to open a shop for him. Goitein's index card indicates puzzlement over whether this Eliyyahu is different than his contemporary, the famous Eliyyahu the Judge. At first he writes, "of course different," but then writes, "a problem!" (Information in part from Goitein's index card.)
