Description

Fragment of a bifolium of accounts in Judaeo-Arabic. Dated in the year 946 AH (1539/1540 CE) on the verso. For similar usage of the letter ץ as 900 in sixteenth-century accounts, see for example: ENA 3150.4 - PGPID 40491. The entries on the recto are better preserved, mentioning names and groups such as: Abū al-Nasr (Naṣr), Abū l-Baqāʾ b. Wafāʾ and "the dyers" (sabāghiyyīn/ṣabāghiyyīn). Cairo's northern Nile port of Būlāq is mentioned in an entry in the lower right corner of the verso. MCD.
