Legal document: T-S AS 207.193 + T-S AS 207.191
Legal document T-S AS 207.193 + T-S AS 207.191Description
T-S AS 207.191: Interior section from a larger legal document, very damaged. Ca. 16th-century or later based on the paleography. The document may relate to real estate given the mention of a "earnings from the residential hall" (שכירות הקאעה) in line 7 but its exact contextual meaning is unclear. At least two different legal parties are mentioned: Yosef and Mordekhay, but their surnames are missing. Yosef acknowledges receipt of a sum of money from Mordekhay. Line five features the common formula "עד סוף פרוטה" which is often used in early modern documents to mean "to the full extent of payment" (lit. to the last penny). MCD. T-S AS 207.193: Opening lines of a legal document, perhaps an entry in a court register or an addendum to a preexisting deed (the lower flourish of a rabbinic signature is visible along the upper border and suggests the existence of an upper section; unless this is a stylized notation in the upper margin of the document, in which case this is the upper part of the document rather than the bottom part). Dating is 16th-century or later based on the paleography. This fragment is likely related to the neighboring shelfmark T-S AS 207.191, which has a similar scribal hand and also mentions legal parties with the first names Yosef and Mordekhay. If these are indeed the same people T-S AS 207.193 offers further details on one of their names: Yosef ____ b. Raḥamīm. MCD.
