Description

List of payments and debts with a variety of individuals mentioned: Moshe b. Ḥayyīm, Benyamin Morisico[?], and Moshe Buelyero (בַוִילְייֵרו). The scribe chose to vowel the latter name, perhaps because it was unfamiliar. Another significant component in this document is its reference to a payment received in "מצרים הישנה" (Old Cairo=Fustat). Because most of the local Jewish population lived in Cairo by 1500, It is rare to find direct references to Fustat in early modern geniza documents. This list in Hebrew is likely from a broader booklet ENA 2898.7-14 where other accounts mention payments in sherifi (שרפי= produced post-1425 CE). This numismatic reference in combination with the paleography helps to date this fragment as 15th- or 16th-century. MCD.
