Letter T-S AS 170.226Description
Letter/petition from a man to a group of judges asserting that he pays sufficient support to his wife [...] bt. Ḥayyim(?) b. [..]hā(?) and to her female slave and to a three-year-old daughter, in weekly payments delivered via Maḥfūẓ the caretaker (qayyim) of the Palestinian synagogue. He complains that she is always disputing the payments and dragging him to court, and he is a sick man and is suffering due to this. Dating: ca. third quarter of the 12th century, as Maḥfūẓ is a known figure (elsewhere referred to as the beadle/khādim of the synagogue).
