State document NLI 577.1/59

Description

Upper left fragment: Official correspondence in Arabic script. The document is probably written for a recent convert to Islam from Samṭā (on the Nile delta). The Amīr Fakhr al-Dīn has written to ʿIzz al-Dīn that he write to the governor of Samṭā that the person concerned shouldn't be troubled for his capitation tax because he has already converted. The beginning of the document asks for an official document (mashrūḥ) to be written with the addressee's registration mark in his own handwriting (bi-yadihi li-ʿalāmatihi). Needs examination.
