Description

State document, internal report, in Arabic script. The sender may be Yaḥyā b. Ḥāmid(?) b. Sālim. The addressee is a qāḍī (al-ḥaḍra al-sāmiya al-qaḍāʾiyya). Dating: 12th or 13th century. At the bottom of verso, the sender reports that when he arrived in Dahrūṭ, there arrived a messenger from the sulṭān reporting that the Franks had arrived to a certain location, and therefore mustering cavalry and foot soldiers (al-fāris wa-l-rājil) from all the districts in order to battle the Franks. Needs further examination. The significance of this fragment was identified by Yusuf Umrethwala in August 2023.
