Description
Fragment with three document entries, probably from a court register. Dated November 1719 (Kislev 5480). The first is marriage-related; the second is a betrothal document; the third is some sort of financial arrangement. (1) Engagement or betrothal between Shemuel b. Avraham Neḥemias and the widow Confrada bt. Avraham Mizraḥī. In addition to the other dowry items and sums listed, Confrada has possession of a house that was left to her from deceased first husband. (2) Engagement of groom-to-be is Yiṣḥaq Afiya (?) and the bride-to-be Bekhora bt. Gabriel Amarillo of Candia. The document entry lists an uncommon locational arrangement: the wedding will take place in eight months in Alexandria on Shavuʿot, however, the married couple plan to reside in Cairo afterwards. Perhaps the bride's family planned to travel from Ottoman Crete for the wedding and Alexandria presented a more accessible venue rather than Cairo. (3) Investment partnership between Yaʿaqov Yo'av and Ḥana the wife of David ha-Levi Ṭorina/Ṭrinqī (?). The 26 gold cinzirli paid by Ḥana is from her son Moshe ha-Kohen (perhaps from a previous marriage given the difference in surnames). Two of the document entries contain an unidentified jewelry item דגאדי (or possibly דגארי). ASE/MCD.
