Description

Fragment of a fiscal account. Concerning the elite military corps known as al-ghilmān al-ḥujariyya ("the slaves of the barracks"), a training academy for Turkish cavalry soldiers founded by al-Afḍal, whose members upon graduation joined the ṣibyān al-khāṣṣ (cf ENA NS 71.8 (PGPID 10067)). The document states that "their number is 530 ghulāms." Underneath it lists numbers (of dinars?), possibly 2517 and 2650. Underneath the term ṭārī (newcomer?) appears. Reused for Hebrew piyyuṭ.
