List or table: T-S AS 185.197
List or table T-S AS 185.197Description
List in Italian and some Hebrew. Dating is unclear, perhaps 14th-16th-century but further examination is required. The portion of the list in Latin-script Italian includes a possible transcription of the Arabic title: "haghi". The word "la mela" or "la mola" also appears (possibly, "apple" or "millstone"). The line in Hebrew lists quantities with peculiar numerical spellings: ארבעתשר שבעתשר (=14 and 17?), the words sound as if they were shorthand or phonetically spelled. Most importantly these quantities seem connected to the monetary term sherīfī (שריפי). The ink from this word is very faint, but if correct, the document can be dated as post-1425 CE (when the Mamluk Sultanate began minting gold coins of this type). MCD.
