State document T-S AS 158.332Description
Recto: (1) Letter/petition in Judaeo-Arabic from Abū ʿAlī to al-Shaykh al-Makīn. Complains about al-Shaykh al-Mufaḍḍal. Nearly complete, but difficult to read because of the overlapping Arabic script. (2) Several lines of unidentified Arabic script, difficult to read due to the overlapping Judaeo-Arabic text. Verso: (1) Draft of a tax receipt for ʿAlī b. ʿImrān al-Yahūdī for his capitation tax (jizya) in New Cairo. The date is difficult to read, possibly 607 AH = 1210/11 CE, though this wouldn't be consistent with the mention of al-Malik al-Kāmil as the sulṭān in the next text block. (2) Draft of a petition ("al-mamlūk fulān yakhdum al-majlis al-sāmī....") containing various praises and honorifics for the addressee and blessingsfor the prolongation of the reign of the sulṭān al-Malik al-Kāmil. (3) On the lefthand page, various additional jottings in Arabic script, difficult to read. One of them refers to ʿĪsā b. ʿAlī al-Mutaṭabbib and "... fī maʿrifat amrāḍ al-ʿayn" — probably a reference to Tadhkirat al-Kaḥḥālīn.There are also a few phrases in Judaeo-Arabic.
