Description

Karaite ketubba from Cairo, the date is mostly lost to damage but can be inferred as no earlier than Sivan 15 5519 AM (June 1759), when the same couple's betrothal document was recorded (Yevr. II A 1274, PGPID 27488). For their engagement deed, see: Yevr.-Arab II 1383 (PGPID 27927). The Ktiv/NLI catalogue provides the year 5519 AM as the time of recording for this ketubba, which is feasible, but it is unclear where/if this AM date appears on the document. Fortunately, the Seleucid year survives in line five as 2070 Seleucid. The bride's name is Hana bt. Aharon b. Raṣon ha-Rofe and the groom's Yosef b. [Yosef b. Gedalya b. Aharon aka Ṣaʿīr]. MCD.
