Description / Bio

A son of Sitt al-Dār bt. Avraham Ben Yijū and the judge Peraḥyā b. Yosef Ben Yijū. He married an in-law of Maimonides, a daughter of Shemuʾel Ibn al-Amshāṭī. The Ibn al-Amshāṭī family been the Ibn Yijū family's patrons for several successive generations. Nissīm arranged cousin marriages for both of his known children: his daughter to his brother Moshe's son Yosef, and his son Peraḥyā to his wife's brother's daughter. Both of these marriages further connected the family to Torah scholarship and the Maimonidean line. SBS (Information from Goitein & Friedman, India Book, pg. 86-88)
