al-ʿĀdil Ibn al-Salār
Description / Bio
Born in Jerusalem ca. 1098. Of Kurdish origin. Sunnī. Ascended through the Fatimid military ranks and became governor in turn of Upper Egypt, al-Buḥayra, and Alexandria. Overthrew the vizier Ibn Maṣāl in 1149 and ruled as vizier under the caliph al-Ẓāfir until his own assassination in 1153.
