الوصف

Acknowledgment (iqrār) in Arabic script. Dating: ca. 14th–16th century on paleographic grounds and based on the mention of the Dār Simḥa synagogue. A precise date may appear somewhere on the document since almost the complete document seems to be preserved here. The Qaraite Mūsā b. ʿAbd al-Ḥaqq b. ʿAbd al-Karīm known as al-Māwardī confirms to have rented (istaʾjara) from the Qaraite [...] b. ʿAbd al-Karīm b. Yūsuf known as Ibn Kūjik(ابن كوجك). something to do with the endowments (awqāf) of the Qaraite community. Mentions Dār Ibn Samīḥ (= the Dār Simḥa synagogue) in ll. 4 and 7, probably as a landmark in describing the location of the waqf property which was rented. Also mentions "the properties of the Christians" (amlāk al-naṣārā) in l. 6. A sum of 19 2/3 dinars is specified in l. 10. (Information in part from Baker/Polliack catalog and Goitein's note card.)
