الوصف

State document originating from the Ayyubid administration in Damascus leading up to 644 AH = 1246/47 CE. The joins are not certain. The same Hebrew scribe reused all three fragments for Hebrew piyyuṭ; T-S H3.96 + T-S NS 130.87 have the same piyyuṭ and T-S 10H8.10 is a different one. The Arabic portion on T-S H3.96 reads "the decree (manshūr) of Sayf al-Dīn Sunqur al-Kurdī and his son regarding that which was indicated to the two of them in it, from the iqṭāʿ. From the (army) camp of Damascus the well-protected." This must be a different Sayf al-Dīn Sunqur than the one who appears as Atabek in Yemen in T-S 28.11 (PGPID 5459), as that one died in 1212/13. The Arabic portion of T-S NS 130.87 contains only the basmala and the first letter of the first line. The Arabic portion of T-S 10H8.10 appears to be in the same hand as that of T-S H3.96 and concerning the same issue. Regarding the handwriting comparison, two of the same words appear written in the same way (رسم and ولده); the same abusive ligature appears between alif and ʿayn; and the use of diacritics and vowels is similar across both pieces. This section is harder to read in full but reads in part: بما رسم ولده من النقد المرسوم استمراره . . . .وهو الفان وثمانماىة من اجرته(؟) . . . بكمالها من المتاع(؟) ال . . . خارجا عن الحقوق الديوانية(؟) لاستقبال مغل(!) سنة اربع واربعين وستماىة. The last line may refer to the expected encroachment of the Mongols or tribute payments in the upcoming year. Needs further examination.
