Renewal of a marriage contract (ketubba) after an earlier ketubba was destroyed or lost, or perhaps after the husband (the blind man Yaḥyā b. Shela ha-Kohen) ruined something and the wife (Khulla bt. Avraham/Ibrāhīm al-Aswad, also known as Sitt al-Kull) complained to the court. Dated: 23 Adar I 1475 Seleucid = 18 February 1164 CE, under the authority of the Gaʾon Netanʾel ha-Levi. Signed by Yaʿaqov b. Yosef ha-Kohen; Hillel b. Ṣadoq Av; and Mevorakh b. Natan he-Ḥaver. Needs furthe rexamination. The images on FGP and the University of Heidelberg Library website are difficult to read and might seem like photostats, but I'm told they are digital images of the originals. Cod.Heid.Or.78–80 were purchased from a dealer in Cairo by Adalbert Merx, who published them in 1894 and donated them to the University of Heidelberg Library after his death. (Marina Rustow)
