الوصف

Verso: Receipt. In Arabic script. For Ibn Mazhar the Jew. The scribe's name appears at the bottom: Abū l-Majd b. ʿAlī. Dated: 506 AH (or possibly 560, but this seems less likely on paleographic grounds). The payment was 4.5 (dinars) cash, which is written both in words and in Greek/Coptic numerals. The payment is for the ground rent (ḥikr) for a compound in the Sūq al-Kabīr (in Fustat?). The scribe has written sūq al-kabīr rather than al-sūq al-kabīr, omitting the definite article, probably due to elision of the vowel after fī and the consonant before the sun-letter in sūq.
