الوصف

Commercial letter in Arabic script. Long and damaged. Dating: likely 16th century, as it mentions the ashrafī (used from 1425 onward but replaced by other currencies in the 16th century) and an amīr who is "very afraid of the pasha" (الباشاه), dating the document to after the Ottoman conquest in 1517. Dealing at length with merchants traveling to and from India and commodities such as pepper and ginger and camphor. Also mentions somebody who has gone up to Cairo. Needs further examination. ASE
