الوصف

Letter from Moshe Ghaylioun (גאילייון) to Meʾir Ben-Naʿim, in Cairo. Dated in the penultimate parsha of the liturgical calendar: "בסדר הרנינו גוים עמו" (Deut. 32:43) from Seder Haazinu. The heading does not include a year, but mention of the letter's recipient Meʾir Ben-Naʿim supports an estimate of 1775-1825 CE. The writer switches between Judaeo-Arabic and Hebrew throughout the letter, with some inconsistent and erratic spellings. The opening section mentions Eliyyahu Franses and etrogim: the holiday of Sukkot was roughly one week away based on the parsha mentioned in the heading. Later on the letter mentions a polisa and Abū Shimʿon. In the addendum, Moshe asks Meʾir to open and read the enclosed letter to Eliyyahu Fr[anses]. MCD.
