Cheat sheet:

  • If you're looking for a word with one missing letter, use a period. Two missing letters, use two periods or {2}. Increase the number in the curly brackets to increase the number of characters, or insert a range with a comma in between, ex. {0,5}.
  • If you don't know how many characters are missing, use .*.
  • If you know which characters you want, use square brackets to find multiple spellings, ex. [יו] for yud or vav.

Accounts in Judaeo-Arabic and eastern Arabic numerals on verso with occasional notes indicating that specific quantities are in different types of coinage. For example, the silver kuruş ("גרש") is attached to certain figures and others bear the designation of "תקיל/ثقيل" indicating coinage of a weight higher than current standards– which helps date this fragment to no earlier than 1690 CE when the earliest variants of the Ottoman kuruş may have been produced (Pamuk, A Monetary History of the Ottoman Empire, 160).

  32. 2777Literary textENA 3904.13

Various scholars over the past century or so have estimated his birth year as either ca. 1029 AH/1620 CE or ca. 1061 AH/1651 CE, although the earlier date seems to be more widely accepted today (Karasoy and Yavuz 2015, 26, cf. 18, 800; Çavdar 2022, 502). A number of his poems refer to a town called Gezlevi or Gözleve as his birthplace, but confusion arises from the fact that at least two towns of that name existed in the Ottoman Empire and its dependencies: one in the Crimea, known in classical antiquity as Eupatoria (today Yevpatoriya), and one southwest of the central Anatolian city of Konya.
