Description

Marital documents in Arabic, medieval-era. Only the divorce contract bears a definitive date: 2 Rabiʿ II 558 AH (10 March 1163 AH). Recto: top part of a marriage contract. Groom: Saʿīd b. Futūḥ b. Ismāʿīl. Mentions the faqīh ʿAfīf al-Dīn Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥasan b. ʿAbdallāh. Verso: divorce contract (also for Saʿīd b. Futūḥ) with witness signatures. Requires further examination. An edition of this document is forthcoming in 2024 Archiv für Papyrusforschung 54 (Naïm Vanthieghem).
