    Legal notes notarized by Shelomo b. Eliyyahu. Dating: Early 13th century. (1) Location: Cairo. Shelomo b. Yiṣḥaq had paid 30 dinars and Abū l-Faḍāʾil b. Abū l-Barakāt 52 dirhams into a partnership. It was agreed that Shelomo, who was also the agent, would take 23 parts and Abū l-Faḍāʾil only 1/24. Shelomo had left the whole sum in Qūṣ and takes responsibility for the whole sum of the money or its equivalent. (2) Yaḥyā ("ha-Sar ha-Yaqar") receives from Shela b.

[…] He mentions that his brother-in-law Abu ‫ʾl-Faraj had arrived in Mirbāṭ (on the southeastern part of the Arabian peninsula), and intended to make his return journey from there via ʿAydhāb, meaning he would bypass Aden As such, ʿAmram encloses a letter to Ḥasan b. Bundār, which he asks Nahray to forward to Aden in the hands of any Jews who might be passing through, or alternatively in the hands of a trustworthy Muslim.

    Partnership agreement from Cairo, dated 13 October 1800 CE (24 Tishrei 5561 AM), between David Dayyan, Eliyyahu Palombo, and Avraham Ḥaqīm. The context of the partnership is not clarified until line 12 with the mention of a "shop" (חנות) that the partners are involved in running together. The agreement also lists a clear distribution of shares, yet, leaves the duration of the partnership up to the decisions of those involved (ll. 5-6: ותחלת השותפות הנז׳ מהיום ולכ׳׳ז שיתרצו).

    The document involves a ṣarrāf, Dāwūd Naʿīm, who was working for one of the state's dīwāns (likely related to production of/trade in a commodity that fell under the monopoly system of Meḥmed ʿAlī Pasha's administration). There is at least one other party involved in the transaction, a certain Sulaymān al-Harīrī. The currencies listed are the kurush and medin, which were minted shortly before Meḥmed ʿAlī Pasha's currency reforms took effect in 1834. MCD.

    IB VI, 41. Part of a cluster of letters (IB VI, 41-45) pertaining to Ismāʿīl al-Fāṣid, whom Goitein describes as a "low-class India trader from Alexandria." […] Frenkel identifies the writer's location as Alexandria and the date as 1176 CE (likely on the basis of VI, 42, which is dated and refers to some of the same events). The letter recounts an interesting family saga. The addressee's maternal uncle passed away while traveling with the addressee to India. […] "If you knew how much reward (in Heaven) you receive from every letter you write us, you would do nothing but write us letters."

    Letter from Yehuda b. Ṭuviyyahu ha-Kohen, the muqaddam of Bilbays (ca. 1170s–1218) to Pinḥas b. […] This is the only Hebrew letter so far identified in the hand of Yehuda; this is likely because Pinḥas was of French origin and most likely knew Hebrew better than Arabic. […] Shemarya the cantor arrived with a letter from Pinḥas for the sender. The bottom of the letter is torn off here.
