الوصف

Communal list (record #18) in a court register/pinqas from a Karaite beit din in Cairo (on f. 7r of Yevr.-Arab. I 328). Dated Tishrei 53[..] AM, final two digits lost (c. 1560/1561 based on surrounding entries). The list is titled: "This is an assessment of the houses in the qodesh of the Karaite Jews" (הדה תקוים ביות אלקדש אלדי לליהוד אלקראיין יצ׳׳ו). Most of the quantities were written with Coptic/Zimām numerals and have thus been translated to western Arabic numerals in the transcription. Due to the condensed layout of the individual entries, the line numbering in the transcription is not a one-to-one representation of the document itself. The list has 52 entries, most of which are names of residents or people renting shops held in the qodesh. Five of the people mentioned are Rabbanite residents (אלרבאן). The Karaite communal oven is also mentioned (אלפרן), as well as some kind of space for sesame oil production (אלסירגה). As with previous entries in the court register, the scribe was likely Avraham b. Yeshīʿa Tawrīzī, given that one entry reads: "my father Yeshīʿa Tawrīzī" (ll. 47-49). MCD.
